Ultra-Wide-Angle Adventure in the High Tatras – A Travel Story with a Few Bumps

In my very first proper (German-language) YouTube video, I take you along to the High Tatras, a highly underrated mountain range on the border between Slovakia and Poland. The trip was originally meant to be the perfect opportunity to thoroughly test my new ultra wide-angle lens (11–24 mm) – but things turned out quite differently.

Right after the first clip, the sole of my hiking boot came off completely. Gluing it back? Useless. And so we were more or less stuck in our accommodation at around 1,300 meters altitude – wearing sneakers in the high mountains. Despite it all, I tried to make the best of the situation and at least capture a few shots with the new lens.

In the video, I not only talk about where the High Tatras are located, but also why – since moving to Hungary – they’ve become such an exciting alternative to the Dolomites for me. I show some of the few images I was able to take despite my broken gear. And since we were pretty high up and far away from city light pollution, I also managed to get a few decent shots of the night sky.

The highlight? A photo I took standing in the middle of an ice-cold mountain lake – barefoot in the snow, because I just didn’t want to leave without getting the shot, even with broken boots. Was it worth it? I’ll let you decide
